Trenton Health Team Partners with Capital Health and Snipes Farm to Host Local Farm Stand to Promote Healthy Living for Families

Trenton Health Team, as part of a two-year BUILD Health Challenge project, is partnering with Capital Health Auxiliary and Capital Health Foundation to host a farm stand every Wednesday in August, providing fresh fruits and vegetables to Trenton residents at reduced costs along with free health screenings and family friendly recreational activities.

“Access to nutritious foods and opportunities for physical activity are key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Gregory Paulson, Executive Director of Trenton Health Team, “ Our focus is to provide these resources to Trenton residents through sustainable partnerships with local health and community organizations.”

Fresh produce will be provided by Snipes Farm and Education Center, and Isles Inc. will engage residents with their T-Recs Mobile Recreation Unit. Additionally, licensed providers from Capital Health, Henry J. Austin Health Center, and St. Francis Medical Center will provide free health screenings. The farm stand will be open every Wednesday in August from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at North 25 Park, at the corner of North Warren St. and Tucker St.

The farm stand is part of the BUILD Health Challenge, a two-year project that seeks to build a “safe and healthy corridor” along Brunswick Avenue neighborhoods in North Trenton, starting from the Battle Monument through Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Strategies include cleaning up vacant lots, improving lighting and sidewalks, upgrading parks and green spaces, and hosting community events. The BUILD Health Challenge is a national initiative to strengthen partnerships between community-based organizations, hospitals and health systems, local health departments, and others, to cultivate a shared commitment to moving resources, attention, and action to drive sustainable improvements in community health. BUILD stands for Bold, Upstream, Integrated, Local, Data-Driven.
