Food Insecurity Index To Expand Statewide

Building on the success of the Tri-County Food Insecurity Index, the New Jersey Office of the Food Security Advocate (OFSA) has continued its engagement with Trenton Health Team (THT) to create a statewide version. The index has helped organizations such as food banks, food pantries, and health providers, make data-driven decisions about how best to meet the community’s food needs. The Statewide Food Insecurity Index will put a valuable, hyper-local tool about food insecurity in the hands of decision-makers in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties. The new version will also include enhanced functionality and a more streamlined user experience.

THT, in collaboration with OFSA and in partnership with the other NJ Regional Health Hubs (Camden Coalition, Greater Newark Health Care Coalition, and Health Coalition of Passaic County), is hosting statewide convenings to gather stakeholder feedback and ensure broad participation in developing the tool’s final features. Please see below.

Statewide Food Insecurity Index Greater Newark In-Person Convening:

Wednesday, March 19, 12:00 – 1:30pm

Statewide Food Insecurity Index Camden In-Person Convening:

Tuesday, March 25, 12:00 – 1:30pm

Once statewide implementation begins, THT will also be offering technical assistance via office hours to organizations and coalitions who are interested in utilizing the index in their communities. The office hours will be available to book for curated guidance and support. For more information, please contact Matthew Broad mbroad@trentonhealthteam.org.
