#WhyILikeTrenton Contest Favorite Photos Award

Trenton Health Team today awarded two #WhyILikeTrenton photo contest prizes to local photographer Habiyb Ali Shu’Aib (Beloved1 on Instagram) for photos of a street vendor and a happy young man chosen as favorites by mural artist Leon Rainbow and Splash Lifestyle founder Sino Lawery.

“These photos highlight one of the best aspects of Trenton–its residents,” said THT Executive Director Gregory Paulson. “Trentonians work hard, like to have fun and care about making their community better. I love the way these images capture that spirit.”

He is one of three winners in the first annual #WhyILikeTrenton photo contest on Instagram. THT ran the contest throughout April to share pride in our city by highlighting Trenton’s assets and talent. The contest attracted more than 50 photos, with prizes awarded for #MostLikes, as well as to favorite photos selected by local celebrities Rainbow, Lawery and Harlem Globetrotter La”Keisha Sutton. Rainbow selected Shu’Aib’s black-and-white image of a street vendor as his favorite; Lawery selected the color image of a little boy.

Each winner receives a $100 prize gift card and also may select a Trenton-based nonprofit, school, or faith-based organization to receive an additional $100 donation from THT.

Habiyb Ali Shu’Aib is a born and bred Trenton photographer whose eye for capturing his city was cultivated from a young age. Starting with a disposable camera at age 9, and guided only by his own experiences, he  has developed a lifelong passion for the streets that bleeds through every photo he produces. From the pure joy reflected in the eyes of a playing child, to the harsh realities of hard living etched into the faces of the homeless, his photos evoke the very emotions he feels while capturing timeless moments, bringing the viewer along for the ride. As passionate a photographer as they come, Beloved1 spends every waking moment perfecting his craft and preparing for his continued success in the field. His future aspirations hold hopes of bringing his work to more galleries. Visit his website

Habiyb Ali Shu’Aib selected Artworks as the nonprofit to receive a donation from THT. The prize for #MostLikes was awarded to Adam Nawrot, for his action photo of a Trenton bicycle polo player receiving nearly 400 “likes.” THT also donated $100 to his selected nonprofit, Trenton Cycling Revolution.
