Michelle Ruess,

Director of Communications

Michelle is a former newspaper reporter and editor who has partnered with a range of nonprofit groups in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to share messages and engage audiences.

Having covered US Congress for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, state legislatures from Indiana to New Jersey, and city hall for the Kansas City Star, Michelle brings in-depth knowledge of how policy is implemented and opinion is shaped to her role as Communications Director at Trenton Health Team.

Still thinking like a journalist, she enjoys helping dedicated teams create meaningful and effective messages. Her experience includes creating and implementing marketing plans in partnership with advancement and admissions directors at independent schools, supervising and implementing redesign of websites, writing articles for and editing newsletters and magazines, as well as free-lance writing and fund-raising.

Michelle lives in Trenton’s historic Mill Hill neighborhood with her husband, dog and two cats. Her son is founder of Trenton’s Freedom skate park. She is a volunteer member of the I Am Trenton Community Foundation board of trustees.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Fun Fact: Michelle has been an aerobics instructor since 2010.
