NJ Health Initiatives Publishes THT Blog

New Jersey Health Initiatives is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. NJHI is dedicated to supporting innovations and driving conversations to build healthier New Jersey communities.

NJHI supports innovations and drives conversations to build healthier communities through grantmaking across the State of New Jersey. To meet the many health needs of our state’s diverse populations, regions and communities, the NJHI program encourages collaboration across sectors in our state’s communities to foster deep relationships committed to long-term change affording everyone the opportunity to live the healthiest life possible.

Trenton Health Team is proud of NJHI support through the Upstream Action Acceleration grant, as well as the Communities Moving to Action grant. Our blog focused on the recent #WhyILikeTrenton photo contest that showcased community pride — and expanded our community outreach — by lifting up Trenton’s greatest asset: its people — diverse, resilient, creative, hard-working and caring. “Like so many American cities, Trenton suffers from significant health disparities driven largely by “upstream” conditions such as poverty, structural racism, food insecurity, and childhood trauma. But, as the faces of hope and determination found in the photo contest prove, those challenges do not define Trenton,” the blog states.

“Looking more deeply at the factors influencing health, as well as Trenton’s challenges and assets, the Trenton Health Team is now operating with a broader understanding of what health and well-being, and health equity, mean for the city, and finding new activities and strategies to connect individuals and organizations to help achieve THT’s Vision for a Healthy Trenton.”
